All the verterinarians are terrific. They are very good clinically, as well as compassionate. We followed Dr. Dowling when he moved from his private practice. I have four cats and they have been seen at one time or another by all 3 vets. One of my kittens was very sick and we didn't know if he'd survive. They made the right diagnosis and gave the right antibiotic and within 24-36 hours he was already feeling better. It saved my 10 week old kitten.

My 9 pound adult dog fell ill on 3/19/15. I called the number to my vet and was referred to another vet who was "on call". After speaking to the vet we agreed that the dog needed to be seen immediately. 10 minutes into our 30 minute drive our dog passed away. I called the vet back to ask them if we should still go in and discuss disposal. The answering service called them, and they never called back. Not wanting to go home just to turn around, or waste the vets or our time, we thought that to be the thoughtful thing to do. We decided to continue on as we realized we may be charged as a "after hours no show". When we got there we discussed disposal. Being that we are in Maine and it being winter, burial right now was not an option. We were offered to store our pet there, or cremate. We opted for private cremation after the vet informed us that our total bill would only be $120 in total. We offered twice to pay the bill in full right then. The vet refused saying we should pay when we picked our pet up. Today, 4/3/15, my husband picked up his ashes and was handed a bill for $289.00. This is well beyond double what we had been quoted. The bill was broken down as: $125 for private ashes saved, $64 for the cremation, and $100 for the emergency call. My husband paid the bill in full and called me. I called and told the receptionist that I was very upset at the undisclosed expenses. She asked me to hold and had the owner (who later identified himself as the vets husband) get on the phone. He informed me that I had assumed poorly that this would be the only expense and that I had to of misunderstood. I informed him that both my husband and I were quite clear about what the expense would be as that was a large factor in what our decision would be. His response was that I must have misunderstood and it was obviously a stressful situation so it was easy for me to misunderstand. I again reiterated that we did not misunderstand, that we are in fact meticulous when it comes to finances as we have a seriously, medically needy child, and we have a limited budget to work with. He took this opportunity to again attempt to say that it was obvious my personal stresses impacted what we understood his wife to say. When I became upset at that, he became very condescending and rude at this point saying he did not have to work with me at all. My options were to pay in full or break it up into payments to make it more manageable. I clearly told him no thank you, and that I would be promoting his bad customer service. His response was that they had a great reputation, so do what ever I think I need to, as it would have no effect and that he was trying to do me a favor. At more than double the quoted amount???? The bottom line is, if we had been quoted the actual prices, we would made different choices for service. This feels very much like bate and switch. I will NEVER use them again, and will advise everyone who asks to avoid them as well, and since I work in rescue, that will be a lot. They are not trustworthy from my experience. Subsequently, my husband went in to see if he could correct the situation with this man. He again offered a payment plan, which my husband accepted and then after we had a chance to talk, he went in cancelled and paid in full. We do not trust that they would be honorable in that aspect either. Extremely poor customer service!

Great family experience run by a great family.

My dogs and I have been using Camden Hospital for Animals for several years. The main reason was that Dr. Jim Laurita was there. When he passed away I elected to stay on because Dr. Kotakas was a very good vet. All that changed when they added new vets, My lab has a history of ear infections. We usually go in, get the ear medication and off we go. Not this time they said Maggie needed blood tests and several other very expensive tests. Still no progress. Third visit differet vet, received an injection of antibiotic. Cleared up her ear infection in two days. My dog went over two weeks with a very painful ear infection for no earthly reason but money. No one told me the price of any tests and the records indicate the owner agreed. I spoke to the owners husband who runs the practice and such double talk you never heard. Over $600.00 for what should have been around $100.00. The owners husband just kept talking every time I tried to say something to him on the phone. Talk about rude and arrogant. He explained that if I did not pay the bill in 90 days my account would be sent to a collection agency and he hoped that would ruin my credit!! I changed vets and am very happy with my new vet. The new vet is treating my dog for a hematoma at the injection site of the antibiotic injection. Also because of the antibiotic injection my dog developed a serious case of blood in the stool and was in a lot of pain. The old vet shoud have recommended a pro biotic. My poor dog has paid a terriable price. I will not recommend Camden Hopsital for Animals to anyone for any reason. Stay away.

In addition, the office staff is kind, friendly and very responsive. I have gone here for years with the previous and current owners and staff and can not imagine going elsewhere.

We love them all!

All the vet techs are terrific. They are very knowledgeable and compassionate. All the ladies at the front desk are as well. They have been extremely helpful when I call in a panic about something and they always steer me right.

What I appreciate too is being up front and honest. They explain options for treatment, as well as the value of some of the tests, not to order things just because as anxious pet owners we'd say do everything. NOT that money is a factor when it comes our family, or anyone else's, but I believe in informed consent.

So compassionate. Our dog passed away from an aggressive cancer in May. Dr. Contakos walked us through the entire process from start to finish. She even surprised us with an ornament with our dog's footprint for us to remember our pet by.

I have nothing but good things to say about this entire organization! The staff is amazing. They have made house calls to my home without hesitation both when my cat was hit by a car and when my dog (regrettably) had to be put to sleep. Stacey personally came to my home so my dog was comfortable and we had the best experience we could in a bad situation. Her partner has been equally as good. I also appreciate that they do not try to make me feel like my dog & cats need treatment they may not, but the clearly lay out options so I can make decisions.
